We often hear that extra weight is a problem for our health.

New research shows that the more weight we have can lead to more sever suffering in auto accidents.  We can extrapolate that it can carry over to many traumatic injuries like slips and falls. We know that those with obesity have more issues with diabetes, musculoskeletal problems and  diseases. This current research shows additional health issues with obesity.

Can being overweight hurt me?

Carrying additional weight can extend the amount of time it takes clients to recover from auto injuries, according to brand-new research from the Department of Anesthesiology at University of North Carolina provided at the American Pain Society 33rd Annual Scientific Meeting. The findings of the study found that the more overweight an individual is, the most likely they are to experience back, neck, and shoulder pain after an auto accident.

The Effects of Obesity on Auto Injury Pain

The UNC study was based upon details obtained from 916 adults who went to the emergency situation department at the university within 24 hours after a car accident. Overall, 37 % were typical weight, 32 % were obese, 18 % were overweight, and the staying 13 % were morbidly overweight.

Each individual reported their levels of headache, shoulders, and back using a 10 point scale (with no significance that they didn’t experience any pain at all and a 10 meaning their discomfort was excruciating and could not become worse).

What researchers discovered was that the level of pain reported increased gradually for each of the weight classifications. This was true at the beginning of the discomfort from the automobile injury, along with the 6 month and one-year follow-up.

These benefits add to an earlier study revealing that overweight vehicle drivers have a higher risk of dying in car mishaps compared with normal weight vehicle drivers.

Reducing weight is a Must for Future Health

This indicates that getting to and staying at a lower, healthier weight is necessary for better health as well as to prevent future complications from auto injuries. The best action is a proactive action, and this is simply another reason to lose any excess pounds that you have.

Chiropractic physicians are trained in alleviating musculoskeletal discomfort after car injuries, and many times they can also assist you in making clever dietary and exercise choices to support a healthy weight.
